The “Management Report” accompanying the Conai, National Packaging Consortium balance sheet, presents a clear picture of all the advantages of the packaging waste recovery chain. Over the course of 2013, despite the economic crisis, confirmed its positive numbers with slight improvement. According to preliminary data from last year, the quantity of packaging on the market remained aligned with the values from 2012, at 11.4 million tons. Of this amount, 8.74 million tons of steel, aluminium, paper, wood, plastic and glass were recovered, with a 1.3% increase in respect to the previous year, equal to 76.7%. Overall recycling was 66.5% of the materials on the market, also a slight increase in respect to the previous year. In this framework, the protagonist role was filled by Conai, which significantly increased management of packaging waste in partnership with the National Association of Municipalities (+3.3% in respect to 2012), for a total of 3.37 million tons managed directly.
